First in the Room: Owning the Mic

First in the Room: Owning the Mic Online

I was the first female coach in the Overwatch League, a professional tier one esports league. That title opened doors and it also opened the floodgates to bias, scrutiny, and online bullying. In this Living Library session, I will speak plainly about what it takes to show up in a male dominant space, how I protected my mental health, and how I turned pain into practice. You will hear the decisions behind the headlines, the systems I built to set boundaries, and the moments I almost quit but did not. That experience did not break me. It redirected me. I moved into content creation and discovered a voice that reaches people far beyond a scoreboard. Today I craft stories that move donors, students, and communities to action. I will share the creative habits, interview techniques, and narrative frameworks I use to turn lived experience into impact. If you are navigating hostile feedback, trying to lead as the only one in the room, or looking to turn your story into fuel, this talk is for you. Come with questions. Leave with practical tools, renewed resolve, and proof that your difference can be your strongest advantage. Join me and let us build better rooms.
